AEM in Australia: A New Chapter for Our Sydney Business

Our Sydney desk has established itself in Australia’s environmental certificate markets - large-scale and small-scale renewable energy certificates, energy efficiency certificates and peak reduction certificates.

These are specialist markets. They are technical, closely held, and shaped by compliance obligations that move with policy. Working in them well comes down to knowing the participants, understanding what is driving them and staying close to the flow.

The licence also opens the Australian power market to us, and that is where our attention now turns. We are building an ASX electricity futures capability covering swaps, options and strips across the National Electricity Market.

The Australian Electricity market has seen record volume and participation in recent years, with a number of new firms entering and proving to be one of the most liquid options markets globally. Australian power and environmental markets are closely connected, and our clients are increasingly active across both.

Our Sydney team has grown steadily over the past year and moves into larger premises in November, with room to keep expanding.

Australia is one of four AEM offices worldwide, part of a business of around 120 people across London, Dubai, Singapore and Sydney. For our clients here, that means people in their own time zone - and access to our global energy desks whenever they need them.
